When in New Orleans, beignets are a must. This donut-like sweet treat is one of the city’s most famous food staples that locals and visitors can’t resist. Talking about its history, they were first introduced to the town by the French colonists in the 18th century.
To go to eat these donuts without holes, you must visit the famous Cafe’ Du Monde. Beignets are deep-fried choux pastry and alternatively made from yeast dough. Though the recipe looks very simple its final form is much delicious, then it seems.
Dipping it in hot Coffee Au Lait was so good that we made a separate cup just for dipping. It melted in our mouths like butter but eating it with a chilled coffee was just as tasty.
The Cafe used an Ethyl Acetate process to decaffeinate the coffee used in their blend of “Coffee and Chicory” (Ethyl Acetate is a natural chemical found in many fruits).
We could not get enough of these sweets, that, when we got to the airport, we saw another Cafe’ Du Monde and friends went in excitement to buy it, but our flight was the very first flight back to Los Angeles, and the time being so early in the morning that, the place was not open.
