BETHLEHEM MUSICAL

As a Christian entertainer, it can be disheartening when there are few faith-based productions. Particularly in Hollywood, the quest for “faith projects” can feel overwhelming (and I plan to write more about this subject in the future).

Nonetheless, I kept auditioning in hopes of securing roles that would honor God. One would think that in our current society, there would be more productions or auditions that highlight God’s teachings or connect with Christianity, yet opportunities remain scarce. However, I was finally cast in this amazing production, which was highlighted on Broadway World as a biblical tale presented humorously and safe for the whole family during the world premiere of this new musical comedy at the Lincoln Stegman Theatre, and it was a hit.

The story chronicles Mary and Joseph’s trek to Bethlehem for the census and the birth of Jesus, presented through a collection of original songs, comedic monologues, dialogues, and brief scenes that offer a lively, innovative perspective on the Christmas narrative. The script is penned by 7-time Emmy award-winning writer/producer Jeff Zimmer (famous for “Not Necessarily the News”, “Talk Soup”, “The Mickey Mouse Club”, and “America’s Funniest Home Videos”), while the music is composed by singer-songwriter Mike Renneker (who has been featured on “The Dr. Demento Show”). “TBP” serves as a prequel to Zimmer’s previous work, “The Golgotha Project,” which narrates the events of Christ’s death and resurrection and was published last summer by Elderidge Publishing. It was an honor to be part of this production, and I thank God for it!

I have spoken with producer Jeff about the potential of continuing this musical each season, as it is such an enlightening production that has brought great joy and laughter to the community. I genuinely hope it continues every Christmas, and I aspire to be involved.

I will truly miss the talented and professional cast until we meet again…
